FAQ's

Is hydrotherapy suitable for all Dogs?

Obviously some breeds are happier in the water than others, but we have the facilities and experience to make the treatment as easy and stress free as possible for each dog.

We are aware of any existing health problems before we start as the referring vet will have filled in a referral form before any treatment commences and we perform a basic health assessment at the dog's initial assessment.

Do I need veterinary permission before I bring my dog?

Yes, we will only swim dogs with a veterinary referral from. This way we can be sure the dog is fit to swim and any health problems can be brought to our attention before we start treatment.

If you are thinking of bringing your dog in and would like us to discuss it with your vet please ring and let us know.

How much does it cost?

Each session is £20. This includes all treatment, a shampoo and blow dry and of course a treat at the end! We do offer a special price if you pre-pay for a course of 10 sessions you get 1 free.

Will my insurance pay for the treatment?

As members of the CHA insurance companies are happy to pay for treatment provided the dog was referred by the vet. The level of cover depends on the individual policy so we advise you to speak to your insurer before treatment commences. We do have to ask you to pay for the sessions. We then help you claim the money back as the insurance companies will not deal with direct claims from us.

How many sessions will my dog need?

This is very difficult to answer as it very much depends on the dog's condition, age, behavior etc. However after an initial assessment the hydrotherapist will be able to give you a better idea.

Can I stay with my dog?

We have found that dogs are happier and calmer when their owner is involved in the session. We recommend that you wear a waterproof jacket as it can get a bit wet! The trained hydrotherapist will conduct all the treatment and guide you accordingly.

Do I have to get in with my dog?

Most people will be pleased to hear that we don't expect you to get in the water! The trained hydrotherapist will conduct all treatment and you can just help to encourage your dog or sit and watch as you prefer.

How will I know if it is working?

Hopefully you will be able to see a difference at home fairly quickly. We also encourage check ups at the vets so they can monitor your dog's progress. The dog's progress in the pool is recorded after each session and feed back is sent to your referring vet.

Is it only for dogs with health problems?

No. Some dogs come for fun. Others come to build up muscle and fitness for showing or agility. Some come to learn to swim!

If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ring and ask Olivia on 01285 860719.

I bought my dog Murphy this morning for a 'Swimming lesson' and wanted to express my appreciation for the professional way in which Olivia dealt with him.

It was Murphy's first swim and despite being a bit nervous Olivia calmed him and I think he enjoyed it. I will be away for the next few weekends but will be booking him in soon again.
